Fiè Pond

The small Fiè Pond near the Siusi Alp is a popular bathing lake and valuable biotope

The Völser Weiher has been established by Leonhard baron Colonna of Fiè as a fishpond in the 16th century. Today, however, fishing is no longer permitted, as part of the lake is recognized as a valuable biotope. The great location of the pond, at the foot of the Sciliar Massif with the strinking Cima Santner peak, as well as in close vicinity to reknown hiking destinations such as the Tuff Mountain Hut in the middle of alpine meadows, make this small lake both a popular excursion destination. The surface of the lake is about one hectare, half of it is designated as biotope.

The Fiè Pond is situated only 12 km above Bolzano, in other words within easy reach by car or by public means of transport. In summer it invites to enjoy the clear mountain air and to swim, on its parking space there's an information point of the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park you may visit. In winter, however, you can go ice skating: The Fiè Pond is one of the few lakes in South Tyrol which are cleared for ice skaters in case of snowfall. The return from the above mentioned Tuff Hut can be done by sledge in those months: The toboggan run is 2.4 km long and medium difficult.
