The history of Lake Resia is told at the Upper Venosta Valley Museum near the lake

Alongside the Venosta Valley Museum in Silandro, which comprehensively covers the history of the Val Venosta, you'll find another museum about 25 kilometres away. It focuses on a particularly significant event: The museum tells the story of the villages of Curon Vecchia (Old Curon) and Resia, partially submerged in the summer of 1950 by the newly created Lake Resia.
677 hectares of land were lost due to the reservoir construction, the owners were expropriated, and forced to leave their homes. A dark chapter in South Tyrolean history, commemorated today by the famous Church Tower in Lake Resia. Across two rooms and a traditional Stube, a fascinating photographic documentation shows what the area looked like before the flood.
The exhibition also tells the story of the dam's construction. Sacred objects and relics from the old village churches, as well as historical items from the rural life of the time, currently complete the collection: The Upper Venosta Valley Museum is continually being expanded and developed.
How to get there: The Upper Venosta Valley Museum (Museum Vinschger Oberland) is housed in the Old Municipal Hall of Curon next to the parish church. You can easily reach it by car or public transport. Parking is available along the main road.
