Hydropower and electricity generation in the Val Passiria valley: the Stieber Mooseum
Image gallery: Stieber Mooseum
The Stieber Mooseum opened in 2022 in the former hydroelectric power station in Plata. Along with the Timmel Transit - Passo del Rombo Experience museum on the Passo del Rombo High Alpine Road and the well-known Bunker Mooseum, it forms the UpperPassiria Museum.
Another museum, the KultMuseum Plata in the old rectory, is currently being planned. The old Moso hydroelectric power station has been repurposed and now provides information about hydropower. Four themed areas await you: the utilisation of hydropower, the history of technology in an impressive, dark room behind the sluice gate, the experiment room, and faces and stories from the rear Val Passiria. The museum takes its name from the nearby Stieber Waterfall.
A pleasant, one-hour hike from Moso leads there. The Rio Plan stream plunges over the rock faces - first 19, then 18 metres into the depths. Near the power station, the Passirio Gorge begins, which can be explored on the Passeier Gorge Trail - the "Passeirer Schluchtenweg" path.
How to get to the Stieber Mooseum? It is located near the sports field in Moso in Passiria. The bus also stops there (Stieber Waterfall stop).
