Reinhold Messner’s captivating mountain museum at Firmiano Castle near Bolzano

MMM Firmian at Firmiano Castle is the main location of the museum project by Reinhold Messner, spread across six museums and locations between South Tyrol and the Belluno region.
This museum houses the exhibition "The Enchanted Mountain", which explores the relationship between humanity and mountains. It presents mountains in art and illuminates the history of mountaineering. The White Tower is dedicated to the history of South Tyrol.
You can move from one area to the next via stairs, towers, and the open-air grounds. Inside, artworks, installations, and relics await. From the castle, the view extends across the Adige Valley to the Texel Group and - in the other direction - to Bolzano and the Sciliar Massif, the emblem of South Tyrol. Steel, glass, and iron - modern and timeless materials that harmonise with the ancient walls - were used during the restoration. Firmiano Castle also offers a welcoming castle tavern.
How to get there: A small road near Frangarto leads up to the museum car park. You can also reach MMM Firmian actively via the Oltradige Cycle Path, which runs below Firmiano Castle - it is called Schloss Sigmundskron in German. From Frangarto, it's just a short walk to the castle.
