Traditional alpinism at the Messner Mountain Museum on Mt. Plan de Corones
Image gallery: MMM Corones
The Messner Mountain Museums (MMM) are a unique museum project in extraordinary locations: Five are in South Tyrol, and one is in the neighbouring province of Belluno, between Pieve di Cadore and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner had the vision to create a mountain museum unlike any other, accessible also with the MMM Tour Ticket.
This ticket is available at a special price and allows you to visit all six locations within a year. The MMM Corones on Mt. Plan de Corones, opened in 2015, is housed in a spectacular building designed by Zaha Hadid (1950–2016). Situated at 2,275 metres, it not only offers breathtaking views but is also South Tyrol's highest museum.
The exhibition is dedicated to traditional alpinism and the lives of mountaineers. Here, you'll learn about the history of alpinism, while the panoramic view incorporates the mighty Dolomites into the exhibition and extends far beyond.
From here, you can even see the Lienz Dolomites and the 3,343-metre-high Marmolada, the highest peak in the Dolomites, located in the adjacent province of Belluno. How to get there: The cable car will whisk you comfortably from Riscone to the MMM Corones.
