Henrik Ibsen Documentation Centre

Henrik Ibsen stayed several times in Colle Isarco: A path, a square and a documentation centre are dedicated to him here

Henrik Johan Ibsen, the great Norwegian playwright and lyricist of the 19th century, who was considered the greatest poet of modern times until his death in 1906, is also well known in Colle Isarco. In the second half of the 19th century, the village was a well-known climatic health resort and the destination of many noble tourists who came here by the new railway. Henrik Ibsen was also a guest at the Grandhotel Gröbner several times during his voluntary exile (1864 - 1891).

Ibsen especially liked to walk along the small streams in the area. He worked mainly at night, and then cleaned his inkpot at the well in the morning. His acquaintance with the young Viennese Emilie Bardach, which began in Colle Isarco, influenced his work of those years, including "The Pillars of Society", "Nora", and "An enemy of the people". In 1889, the plan matured for "Hedda Gabler", a drama in four acts written in 1890, in the 2nd act of which Colle Isarco also appears.

In 1997, as part of the 8th International Ibsen Congress at the Colle Isarco Municipal Office, the meeting room was converted into the Henrik Ibsen Memorial Hall. Today it houses an exhibition about Ibsen's work in the Upper Valle Isarco valley: Historical pictures, postcards and letters by the Norwegian writer are collected here. And how to reach the Hendrik Ibsen Documentation Centre - "Hendrik Ibsen Dokumentation" in German, "Documentazione Hendrik Ibsen" in Italian? It is located in the municipal office on the Ibsen Square in the village centre, there is also a car park.
