Owl Park San Vigilio

At the Owl Park in San Vigilio di Marebbe, home to around 110 owls, you can observe these silent hunters up close

Five of South Tyrol's owl species live in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park. However, you'll rarely see them in the wild. They're mostly nocturnal and fly absolutely silently. Owls seem to glide weightlessly through the air. If you want to see them up close, you should visit falconer Mario's Owl Park and snack bar. It's located in the Val Badia valley next to the "Ciamaor Beach".

Around 110 birds live here. You can observe them during a visit, or - in midsummer - during an educational guided tour, a flying display, or a night hike. Among the residents is Johann, the barn owl. Did you know that barn owls are among the most widespread bird species, even though they're rarely seen? Or that the adorable tawny owls have a wingspan of almost a metre?

At the Owl Park San Vigilio (Eulenpark St. Vigil), owl chicks regularly hatch under expert supervision. You can also learn about endangered species and immerse yourself in the world of these silent hunters and the king of the Alps, the golden eagle. All the animals were born in captivity.

However, in collaboration with the Nature Park, injured owls are also cared for to protect these fascinating birds and bring them closer to visitors. A special gift idea is the adoption of an owl - for example, a snowy owl like Harry Potter's Hedwig. How to get there: The Owl Park is located at the Ciamaor Sports Centre in San Vigilio di Marebbe, about 17 kilometres from Brunico in the Val Pusteria. Parking is available, and the shuttle service from San Vigilio also stops there.
