Animal encounters with panoramic views: the Raingut Farm in Caprile near Tesimo
Image gallery: Rainguthof Animal World in Caprile
Above Tesimo, near the hamlet of Caprile at about 1,100 metres above sea level on the Passo di Palade Road, lies the Rainguthof, a former mountain farm with extensive grounds. The farm was taken over a few years ago by the family that owns the nearby Gfrillerhof and transformed into a small animal paradise. A variety of animals roam the grounds.
Heritage breeds such as Mangalitsa pigs and Racka sheep, ponies, pygmy goats, peacocks, horses, Ouessant sheep, donkeys, ducks, geese, tortoises, fallow deer, emus, and even two camels, Laika and Alibaba, live here. From the meadow behind the farm, there's a sweeping view of Bolzano and the Catinaccio Group, famous from the legend of King Laurin.
In spring, the newborn animals are a big draw, in summer, the altitude offers pleasant coolness, and in autumn, the colourful forests delight hikers. For adults, there's a small bar with a sun terrace and seasonal offerings such as roasted chestnuts in autumn or theatre performances during the pre-Christmas season. How to get to the Animal World?
The Rainguthof farmstead with its Animal World can be reached from Nalles or Lana via Tesimo and the Passo Palade Road. Parking is available.
