Sciaves is an ideal starting point for a cycling tour on the Isarco cycling trail
“Scouves”, this is how Sciaves had been called when it was mentioned for the first time. Probably the name refers to a vine-growing area in Tyrol and is supposed to date back to prehistoric times.
Sciaves is located at 775 m asl and has got the same number of inhabitants. The so-called Urlaubsstoeckl chapel can be visited, combined with a pleasant walk. This chapel is located at the southern slope of the Spinga mountain and is famous with pilgrims. Also worth a visit is the Sacred Heart chapel, built on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Tyrolean freedom fights. Among the sacred buildings we also have to mention the S. Margareta parish church with its stone-framed, quadrate portal and its 72 m high church steeple.
After having experienced the apple high plateau on foot, you can make a walk to the Abbey of Novacella. Events that you don’t have to miss is the royal blossom festival and the “Sunnseitn” apple week, making your holiday a smashing experience.
Our tip: only a stone’s throw from Sciaves, there is the Isarco cycling trail. If you need a service station, Toni Bike offers all assistance you might need for your two-wheeled companion.
