San Valentino alla Muta

Above Lake San Valentino lies the Malga San Valentino, a hiking destination and skiing area with view on the two lakes in the valley

The southernmost village of Curon lies on the northern edge of Lake San Valentino alla Muta. It is the little brother of Lake Resia, which is just 2 km away. The addition "alla Muta" in Italian, or "auf der Haide" in German, means "at the heath" and comes from the vast Malles Heath, the historical granary of Tyrol. In the centre of the village stands the parish church next to the hospice St. Voltn, the dialect name of Saint Valentine, which was founded in 1140. Below the village is the "Dörfl" with its interesting alleys - it is the quarter of San Valentino which was already settled in Roman times. Above the village is the old settlement of "Case" or "Fischerhäuser" (Fishermen's Houses).

The lake is an attraction in the Upper Val Venosta and a meeting place for sport fishing. Part of it is a wetland biotope with lush varied vegetation and fish life. You can walk around the lake or take a rowing boat, but much revolves around cycling here: Cyclists ride along the Via Claudia Augusta past the lake, pedal by mountain bike to the surrounding alpine pastures or take part in the Ortles Bike Marathon in June. A few weeks later, the Lake Resia Run takes place in the municipality.

On foot, the excursions start at the edge of the village, where the Talai Forest is located. It is home to an adventure trail with treasure hunt and an archery course that is open all year round. There are also higher paths to the San Valentino Alpine Pasture - reachable also by cable car - and to the Pian dei Morti above Resia, famous for the "Dragon's Teeth" of the 500-metre-long tank barrier at the Pian dei Morti meadows from the period between the two world wars. The San Valentino Pasture becomes a ski area in winter, the ski pass can also be used in nearby Belpiano at the Resia Pass. In addition, there is the Talai sledge run.
