The municipality of Salorno is located in the Bassa Atesina. Salorno is not only the largest winegrowing area for white wine of South Tyrol, but also the most southern village of South Tyrol. The Chiusa di Salorno, a narrow section in the Val d'Adige valley, represents the gate from the Bassa Atesina area to the Piana Rotaliana, the neighbouring province belonging to the Trentino. For this reason, Salorno is located at the border of the German-Italian language boundary. This village is also one of the few in South Tyrol in which the number of Italian citizens exceeds the number of German-speaking inhabitants.
From the two mountain hamlets of Pochi di Salorno (560 m) and Cauria (1,328 m) visitors enjoy a fabulous view on the Val d'Adige valley and the Brenta Dolomites. Already Napoleon, Martin Luther and Albrecht Dürer used to appreciate the unique flair of the landscape.
