During Advent, Vipiteno (Sterzing) entices visitors with its annual Christmas Market. With its lovingly decorated wooden huts, it transforms the main square into a festive centre from the end of November until 6 January. The majestic Tower of the Twelve watches over the lively activity. The warm lighting, the characteristic bay windows of the houses, and the sound of bells envelop the town of Vipiteno in a special atmosphere. A carillon with 25 bells, crafted by the renowned Grassmayr bell foundry from Innsbruck, has graced the Tower of the Twelve for several years now.
Vipiteno musician and composer Josef Haller composed a piece specifically for the carillon, which will be heard again in 2024: live on the first three Advent weekends, Saturdays at 5 pm and Sundays at noon, and on all other days at 5 pm and Sundays at noon. At the various stalls, you'll find a variety of gift ideas, handicrafts, winter items, and Christmas decorations.
The "Bell Christmas of Vipiteno Sterzing" also offers a diverse supporting programme. Experience the traditional "Tuifltog" with the Krampus of the town, or go night sledding down the Monte Cavallo (from the end of the year). Finally, enjoy a mug of mulled wine or warming apple juice with traditional Zelten fruitcake. The Vipiteno Christmas Market, like all 5 Original South Tyrolean Christmas Markets, is a Green Event with a special focus on sustainability.
